Formation and Service winter camp of the Young Lasallians in Egypt

Duration: 7 days (January 25-31, 2025)

Camp theme: Checkmate
(Just like a chessboard, we must be aware of our boundaries and move within safe areas that protect us from harm).

Location: Durunka, Assiut Governorate, Upper Egypt.

Participants: 65 Young Lasallians (Aged 18–25)

Camp Overview:

The camp focused on two main pillars: Formation and Service, aiming to accompany participants in their journey of growth across various dimensions—spiritual, personal, educational, and Lasallian identity. The goal was to foster deep personal reflection, active service, and a sense of belonging to the Lasallian community.

Service Component

The service was conducted in two stages, with groups of 8 Young Lasallians working in each village.

Morning: Children’s Formation

Total Beneficiaries: ~1,000 children per day for 3 days.

Activities: Purposeful educational programs focused on character building and promoting positive behavior.

Evening: Youth Formation

Total Beneficiaries: ~3000 children per day in all villages.Focus: Deepening Lasallian identity through values-based activities and strengthening youth roles in

Spirituality and Reflection

Spiritual guidance was provided to help participants meet God in sacred moments and connect deeply with their inner selves. The sessions were rooted in Lasallian tradition, focusing on:

Central to the camp was promoting Lasallian heritage and core values:

Special emphasis was placed on the year’s theme: “Our Heart is in the Peripheries” encouraging participants to internalize and apply this concept.

Formation Workshops

The formation sessions enhanced participants’ self-awareness and understanding of personal boundaries in various contexts—college, work, home, and relationships.

Sessions included:

Identifying safe areas and protecting personal space.

Managing harmful influences.

Setting and respecting boundaries.

An additional session focused on building safe spaces for children and equipping participants with techniques for positive interaction.

The service component aimed to instill three core behaviors in children:

Love – Teaching children how to love and share kindness with others.

Closing and Evaluation

The camp concluded with an evaluation session where participants shared experiences and provided future recommendations. The evaluation highlighted personal and communal growth during the camp.

Highlights and Achievements

Deep Community Life: Strengthened bonds among participants during village service.

Cultural Exchange: Youth from diverse regions—Alexandria, Cairo, and Upper Egypt—came together in a spirit of unity.

Leadership and Organization: Enhanced leadership, planning, and teamwork skills.

Personal Reflection: Participants discovered key elements of the Lasallian mission—Faith, Fraternity, and Service.
