1926, a Hundred years have elapsed on that exceptional group photo, a gathering of the whole Freres community of Egypt at College De La Salle – Daher, Cairo.
They were welcoming & celebrating the visit of “Frère Allais-Charles”, the Superior General of the Brothers of Lasallian Schools Worldwide (De La Salle Brothers), he visited Egypt and arrived in Cairo on April 13, 1926.
The visit also timed to coincide with the annual retreat for all Brothers of Egypt, held at College DLS in Daher Cairo. Check the photo, and the astonishing large number of Freres in it; “around 190”, from “over 36 Frere Institutions” existing at that time in Egypt.
His visit was part of a larger pastoral tour of the Middle East and included several key events. He spent approx. two weeks in Egypt, visiting various Lasallian institutions in Cairo and in Alexandria, to inspect the Brothers’ schools there, as well as to supervise the construction works of the new buildings of College Saint Marc (which was then inaugurated in Oct 1928).
